RE: Environmental Assessment of Adam's Mine
Dear Hon. David Anderson,
MP Ottawa, Ontario
Mayor Lastman, and Premier Harris have refused
to listen to the overwhelming majority of Toronto, and
Kirkland Lake residents who do not want Toronto's trash
dumped in Adam's Mine.
Mr Anderson, it would be a much needed step
toward a sustainable society if you can ensure that a
full environmental assessment is conducted on the Adams
Mine plan.
Comprehensive recycling is the clear winning
alternative to landfill and incineration. Organic waste
can be composted, with the resulting methane used to generate
electricity, and heat for district heating. Metal, glass,
and toxics can also be separated on the collection truck.
Returnables and taxes on non-recyclable packaging also
have a part to play in a return to a sustainable society.
Right now, a clear signal needs to be sent
to Mayor Lastman, and Premier Harris that the majority
of the constituents affected by this issue need to be
heard. It is vital that a full environmental assessment
be conducted on the Adam's Mine plan.
